Inbound marketing involves getting found by your potential customers through search, content and social media. Inbound marketing is more effective than traditional outbound marketing methods because you aren’t interrupting people to get their attention, with emails, cold calls, commercials, and so on.

With inbound marketing through the Web, you create a useful, informative website and let visitors find and come to you.

A common myth about inbound marketing is that it’s a mysterious, dark art that can only be done by the search marketing elite. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Inbound marketing is something that, with the right system in place, you can do yourself.

Traditionally businesses have relied on broadcast style marketing and advertising to create awareness of their existence and offerings. Television, radio, press, billboards and Yellow Pages have all been the cornerstone of marketing efforts for the last 50 years. And these media have served us well, offering the most efficient means with which to reach a large audience quickly.

Broadcast marketing by its nature is like using a shotgun. You aim it roughly in the right direction (ie. general target demographic), pull the trigger and hope that you hit the right audience. Of course, you’re also paying to hit some unwilling bystanders (non-target demographic) but that’s unavoidable. You then trust that the people you have hit will react to your efforts.

Inbound marketing turns this approach upside down. It involves discovering where potential customers are searching, positioning yourself correctly so they’ll find you and letting them discover whether you have what they are looking for.

Notice the difference? Rather than trying to force yourself onto unsuspecting masses, qualified prospects are ambling up to you.

Broadcast marketing relies on potential customers noticing you when YOU are ready (spending money on advertisements). It also means they won’t notice you if you aren’t active.

Inbound marketing allows potential customers to find you when THEY are ready. Any time, any place. It delivers motivated, qualified consumers to your door (website) 24 hours a day, 7 days per week.

Inbound marketing basics:

  • Create a search engine friendly website
  • Discover what customers are really searching for and how many of them are searching monthly
  • Optimize your website to be found in these relevant searches
  • Give visitors to your site information that will help in their decision making process
  • Capture information about visitors to your site
  • Provide methods for visitors to make inquiries or purchases
  • Repeat

What is Inbound Marketing?

Technology is making traditional (outbound) marketing such as cold-calling, print advertising, T.V. advertising, junk mail, non-solicited email and trade shows less effective and more expensive. On the other hand Inbound Marketing is marketing focused on getting found by customers.

When people buy things they are more likely to go online and look for the information themselves, ask people in their social groups list or look for referrals from others.

Enter the new marketing paradigm called Inbound Marketing.

Rather than do outbound marketing to the masses of people who are trying to block you out, I advocate doing “inbound marketing” where you help yourself “get found” by people already learning about and shopping in your industry.

In order to do this, you need to set your website up like a “hub” for your industry that attracts visitors naturally through the search engines, through the blogosphere, and through the social media sites.

I believe most marketers today spend 90% of their efforts on outbound marketing and 10% on inbound marketing and I advocate that those ratios flip.

This course will help you learn more about inbound marketing techniques.

Using Adwords to increase your business visability!

Getting targeted traffic is one of the most crucial work in the internet world.

Any website proprietor or administrator realizes the importance of driving traffic to a website. The success from any website doesn’t trust entirely on the site itself.

You might have a fantastic idea for a website, offer  first-class merchandise or service, or have an exceptionally planned site with superior content, simply if you don’t apply the proper strategies to advertise, your site would not draw the high traffic you require.

Appealing targeted traffic is a job that had better be takenseriously for any site to succeed or have a income. Fortunately, there are internet-marketing tools that assist the website marketer to drive traffic to their website.

Among the most important, and effective, of these tools is Google’s Adwords. Adwords is one of Google’s advertising services.

How does Google Adwords work?

Google comprises the biggest search engine on the web getting over 200 million queries every day through its several services. Since Google is the most favourite search engine today, webmasters are sharp on having their websites reach a higher ranking in the search engine leads it provides. A high ranking could mean high traffic for that website.

The search engine results page is as well a extraordinary venue for advertisers to promote a product or service through ads and links. Consequently, Google established its Adwords service, as a way for businesses to advertise products and services to a targeted audience. Google Adwords can assure instant traffic. In this service, Google shows relevant text based ads inside its search engine results page termed as “Sponsored Links”.

Whenever a specific keyword is searched on, these relevant links come out in a separate section giving excellent exposure to the sites listed. It’s about getting more out of your advertising dollars.

Listen, most people waste their advertising dollars because they don’t understand how to work with Google to get the best results.

My good friend Armand does and he’s able to get his ads cost to just pennies a click.

Because of it, his ads are shown anywhere between 7-10 million times a day.

That’s a LOT of traffic!

But more importantly, that’s a lot of CHEAP, QUALIFIED traffic :)

Offline Marketing Secrets

One of the key businesses doing well at the moment is providing online marketing information for small businesses.

3d_column_graphI’m about to reveal an occupation where people just like you are making $500 and more often on their first day out. Better still if you’ve been studying online marketing for 3 months or more you already have all the training you need to get started in what I believe is the best “online job” anywhere today.

First let me tell you what it’s not.

It doesn’t involve multi level marketing, online surveys, data entry, article writing, search engine submission or any other of those crazy internet schemes where you put in hours upon hours of work and the check never arrives.

Also with this occupation you get to work your own hours and you can get paid before you do any real work.

How To Create An Ebook!

Creating an Ebook is not as hard as you may think. You can compile it in many different ways. You can then sell them, give them away or offer as bonuses. Which ever way you do it the result will be a great inbound marketing technique.

The most important thing is to write simply.

It is actually better if you just tell a story and provide good solid information. No big words. It is not an academic disertation. Most people read at a secondary school level.

I have compiled many books in three main formats.

  1. You can use a software package called Ebook Generator. This creates an exe file and allows you to use all the features of the internet inside your book as it is basically a specialised form of a browser. You create your webpages in something like front page and then compile all the pages in to your ebook. You can get a sample below.

  2. The second and most popular is in a PDF format. To make these all you do is create your content in a word processor and then compile using a PDF printer. If you use Open office it has a PDF compiler or you can get a free one from a previous post.
  3. There are also a lot of proprietary ebook creators that produce ebooks in many different formats. One I particuarily like is the turning book style. There is a sample below.

Ebook Generator and PDF’s have the added advantage of allowing your readers to brand some of the content which is great for affiliate marketing and making your ebooks more viral.

Creating your first eBook

videolighting150Organization is the key

To make it easy to compile your eBooks I suggest you put all your files in the one directory. If your just starting I would also suggest you go with a PDF format as they are easier to create.

Remember the success of your ebook will depend on the quality of the information you include. In your book you can link to your products, affiliate products and also any other sites or resources you like.

Remember if you are going to sell the book there is a good chance if it is any good it will be stolen so by adding good links this can become a plus rather than a negative.

Download the PDF of Video Lighting.

99% of people are honest so going overboard with security can just cause more problems than its worth.

Remember also that some eye candy graphics and a good layout can make your book look a lot more professional. Here is a great resource for word templates.

Test before you have a go.

One of the best ways to see what you need to do is to build a few very simple ebooks and then compile them. You will quickly notice if you can navigate through the pages easily and how your software matches the PDF writer you use.

ometimes the links will not work depending on the linking structure you use so test these. I actually got an old copy of Adobe Acrobat from an auction for $20 which then allows you to edit the whole PDF as is.

Below are some Sample.

So here are some example of the various forms of ebooks avaialable and tomorrow we will look at video.

Exe File Example: 10 Google Steps (zipped)

How to market during a recession and tough times.

As the economy slows down, businesses are finding they have to cut their marketing budgets and are looking for more cost effective forms to get the message out about their products and services.

Add to this the traditional forms of marketing like TV, radio, print and cold calling are now getting diluted with new technology blocking many of these from ever reaching prospective customers.

People can record TV shows without the adds, they redirect calls to their voice mail to screen at a later time and many people get their news and other information from web services, screen their emails with spam filters and generally are able to screen out most things coming into their lives.

When people buy things they are more likley to go online and look for the information themselves, ask people in their facebook list or look for referals from others.

Enter the new marketing paradigm called Inbound Marketing.

There are three specific ways Inbound Marketing improves on the efficiency of traditional marketing:

(1) It Costs Less – Outbound marketing means spending money – either by buying ads, buying email lists or renting huge booths at trade shows. Inbound Marketing means creating content and talking about it. A blog costs nothing to start. A Twitter account is free, too. Both can draw thousands of customers to your site. The marketing ROI from inbound campaigns is higher.

(2) Better Targeting – Techniques like cold-calling, mass mail and email campaigns are notoriously poorly targeted. You’re reaching out to individuals because of one or two attributes in a database. When you do Inbound Marketing, you only approach people who self-qualify themselves. They demonstrate an interest in your content, so they are likely to be interested in your product.

(3) It’s an Investment, Not an Ongoing Expense – When you buy pay-per-click advertising on search engines, its value is gone as soon as you pay for it. In order to maintain a position at the top of Google’s paid results, you have to keep paying. However, if you invest that money in quality content that ranks in Google’s organic results, you’ll be there until somebody displaces you.

Unfortunately you will not find out much about this new concept from the people who design your website because they are not marketers. They are designers and like in the past many do not communicate with the marketing dept.

The days when a pretty brochure style website would draw customers has come to an end and the business that utilizes Inbound Marketing techniques will dominate the market place.

In our next post we will discuss what these new marketing techniques are. To keep up be sure to use our rss feed or get the post delivered to your email box.

Google PR for Business Explained.

This directly fom Google.

PageRank Technology: PageRank reflects our view of the importance of web pages by considering more than 500 million variables and 2 billion terms. Pages that we believe are important pages receive a higher PageRank and are more likely to appear at the top of the search results.

PageRank also considers the importance of each page that casts a vote, as votes from some pages are considered to have greater value, thus giving the linked page greater value. We have always taken a pragmatic approach to help improve search quality and create useful products, and our technology uses the collective intelligence of the web to determine a page’s importance.

So what does all this mean in lamens terms?

PageRank is an independent measure of Google’s perception of the quality/authority/credibility of an individual web page.

It does not depend on any particular search phrase. For the public (you and me), Google conveniently reports this as a number from 0-10 (10 being the best). So, assuming for a second that your web page and your competitors web-page has the same relevance – then whoever has the higher PageRank gets the better ranking – and shows up at the top of the results page.

This is why PageRank is so important. Your relevance is based on your content (if you’re a consulting company specializing in technical selling, your relevance for stainless steel monkey wrench searches is going to be understandably low). Your PageRank is what counts.

How PageRank Is Calculated

There has been a lot written and a lot debated about Google’s PageRank, but on one point there is near unanimous agreement.

PageRank is primarily determined by how many other web pages are linking into you. Google considers this kind of inbound a link a vote of confidence. But, here’s the trick: Not all inbound links are created equal.

Web pages with more credibility that link to you have more “value” to your PageRank than those with less credibility. How is this credibility determined? Why, by their PageRank, of course! So, let’s take an example.

Lets say you have your Uncle Charlie link to you from his blog to your small business website. Let’s also say that Uncle Charlie’s blog has a Page Rank of 3 (this is being a little generous because all Uncle Charlie writes about is his dog Sparky and he has limited inbound links). This link from Uncle Charlie will certainly help you – a little bit. It will help you more if you can find 100 such Uncle Charlie websites with a PageRank of 3 and get them to link to you.

However, if you get a single link from a site that is PR6 or above, it’ll help you more than a 100 Uncle Charlie websites. Why? Because it has a PageRank of 6 and a link from it is much more valuable. I divide up PageRank into these broad categories:

0-3: New sites or sites with very minimal links
4-5: Popular sites with a fair amount of inbound links
6: Very popular sites that have hundreds of links, many of them quality links
7-10: Usually media brands (NYTimes.com), big companies or A-list bloggers.

Now, it’s important to note that PageRank is believed to be calculated on a logarithmic scale. What this roughly means is that the difference between PR4 and PR5 is likely 5-10 times than the difference between PR3 and PR4. So, there are likely over a 100 times as many web pages with a PageRank of 2 than there are with a PageRank of 4. This means that if you get to a PageRank of 6 or so, you’re likely well into the top 0.1% of all websites out there. If most of your peer group is straggling around with a PR2 or PR3, you’re way ahead of the game.

What’s Your PageRank?

There are two ways to figure out what your approximate PageRank is. One, you can download the Google Toolbar (the PageRank feature is not turned on by default, so you’d have to enable it after installation).

The other way is to use our immensely popular (and free) Website Grader tool. It will not only tell you your Google PageRank, but a bunch of interesting other stuff.

Summary: Organic search is like free advertising.

It’s worth the investment to try and get a high ranking by the major search engines. To rank high you should do two things:

  • First, make sure your site has the right relevant content for the types of searches your potential clients are conducting.
  • Second, try to get the highest PageRank possible. To do this, you need to get as many inbound links from as many high PageRank web pages as possible.
